Senate District 28 (Arapahoe, Denver)

Incumbent Democrat Suzanne Williams has been a strong voice on education, children and family issues and transportation. She's our choice over Republican Sueyuna Duthie and Libertarian Kenneth Wyble.

Editorial: Suzanne Williams for Senate District 28 - Voice of Aurora

Incumbent state Sen. Suzanne Williams has gone from honored mom and teacher to education legislation powerhouse at the state Capitol, and all Colorado residents, including those in Aurora, benefit from her dedication.

Williams not only has a comprehensive understanding of the issues facing Aurora schools and families, but among all Colorado legislators, she's offering the soundest and most practical ideas about how to increase student achievement.

Williams is seeking a second term in the state Senate, where she was elected to after completing four terms in the state House. In the time she's spent in the Legislature, she has become one of a few go-to lawmakers for getting complicated and effective measures on the books. She has a long record of carrying legislation that seeks to improve the lives of children and families inside and outside of public schools.

A former special education teacher in the Cherry Creek School District, Williams has consistently been easily available to her constituents and for years has held monthly meetings simply to answer questions and keep residents apprised of news from the Capitol.

She's running against Republican Sueyuna Duthie and Libertarian Kenneth Wyble for the seat. Duthie is an energetic, passionate political newcomer who has demonstrated not only deep understanding of state issues, but also has offered practical, thoughtful ideas about how Colorado should meet its growing challenges. Because of Williams' strong standing in the state Senate and her past record, she's the best choice for this seat. Duthie, however, shows great promise as a strong, compassionate Republican voice that Aurora and her party should pay close attention to.
